Keeping his Spirit Alive...

The purpose of our organization is to extend to the community what George means in our hearts.

His athletic abilities, goodwill, and sportsmanship have inspired his friends and family to create the George Mougolias Memorial Fund, to honor his memory. In essence the Fund has been created in order to keep his spirit alive through accomplishing the following:

The George Mougolias Memorial Tournament was created to promote the discipline and good sportsmanship that George exemplified within the Greek Orthodox community as well as his love and dedication to the game by hosting this annual event in his honor.

The George Mougolias Memorial Fund scholarships are awarded annually to Greek Orthodox youths, thus aiding them in their academic Studies. The Fund wants emphasize the importance of education within the Hellenic community.

  • We have awarded over $110,000 in scholarships over the past 25 years to worthy seniors of Hellenic decent.
  • Donated $5,000 to "Help Kosta find a Match!"
  • Donated $1,000 to Mike Kidonakis and Family to help with his battle with cancer
  • Muscular Dystrophy Society- sent donation on behalf of Garfield Men’s Team
  • AHEPA Marrow Donor Registry- sent donation on behalf of St. Demetrios Chicago Women’s Team
  • St. John Chrysostom Monastery-sent a donation
  • Children’s Memorial Hospital-donated to a heart program which aids children from Greece to receive treatment here in Chicago
  • Lydia’s House-contributed clothes and food through a drive at the tournament gyms
  • Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church- donated funds for the renovation of the church’s gymnasium
  • Franciscan Outreach Association-contributed clothes and food through a drive at the gyms during the tournament weekend
  • “Victory for Nicholas”-raised money during the tournament for Nicholas Kakolires, a boy fighting Acute T-cell Leukemia
  • Socrates School- donated funds for textbooks where George once attended school
  • “Adopt-a-Kid” program-purchased gifts for ten orphans during X-mas
  • Holy Cross high school-donated funds to renovate the gymnasium
  • Donation to St. Demetrios of Elmhurst Day School
  • “Help Welcome Nikolas Home”- Benefit for Niko Bezanis to aid his return home after tragic accident that left him paralyzed.
  • The Kougan Children’s Fund-Donated to a family who suffered the tragic loss of their father and husband.
  • Help Yano Fight Neuroblastoma-Donated to a child with a rare disease.
  • Plato Academy-To provide tuition assistance for a family in need.
  • Donated Money to help Stathi Saltis fight neuroblastoma.
  • Donated Money to the family of Dimitri Galetsis.
  • Donated Money to help Evan Kollias fight Leukemia.
